Bicentennial
Boardwalk Airlie Beach to Cannonvale
You don't need to be energetic to take a stroll along the 3.7 kms Bicentennial
Boardwalk between the lagoon area of Airlie Beach and Cannonvale Beach,
as there is no doubt that you will stop many times along the boardwalk
to catch your breath, as the views will simply take your breath away.
Specially constructed as part of the 1988 Australian Bicentennial Celebrations,
the boardwalk provides a safe walking track, meandering along the shoreline,
giving walkers some of the best coastal views to be found anywhere in
the world.
The Bicentennial Boardwalk also links Airlie Beach and the Abel Point
Marina with some of the best tourist accommodation in the Whitsundays,
such as the Coral
Reef Resort, Shingley Beach Resort and the new development around
Whisper Bay. Talking of Whisper Bay, keep an eye on the water when walking
past this area, as there is a resident turtle who often pops his head
up to say hello to passerby's.
Popular
with the locals, who fully appreciate the views and use it often for
scenic walks, plus fitness and health reasons, once you walk along the
length of the boardwalk, you realize just where paradise is, right here
in the beautiful Whitsundays.
When next you visit the Whitsundays, take a walk along the Bicentennial
Boardwalk yourself. It takes around 2 hours to walk between Airlie Beach
to Cannovale Beach and back again, just be prepared to take a little
longer, as there is so much to see you do want to take your time, take
some great photos and "stop to smell the roses".
