Whales In Whitsundays

by John on August 24, 2009

If your going to the Whitsundays in the near future, keep on the lookout for whales as they are still swimming north to those wonderful tropical waters off Airlie Beach.

Today, Monday August 24th, yours truly and eagle eyed partner Hypergurl, saw 3 pods of whales directly out from the Mackay Marina, swimming north. This was around 4.00pm and each pod was about 300 meters from each other.

It really is a blast to go and walk along the Mackay Marina wall for exercise and see whales. There were 2 ladies walking in front of us and they spotted the whales at exactly the same time as us. There were squeals of delight from all of us.

If your coming to Mackay soon, check out the accommodation at the Clarion Hotel right on the Marina. Then enjoy a morning walk out to the point or an evening stroll, keeping a watchful eye out for whales, dolphins or turtles.

Perhaps you may even bump into us taking our exercise. But please don’t mistake us for the real whales. :)
