Whale Watching Season 2009

whalewatching.jpgGrab your binoculars, charge up the camera batteries, the whales are on their way.

The great white whale Migaloo, has been sighted off the central NSW coast heading for the warmer waters of Queensland. This signals the start of the whale watching season for 2009 and whale watching cruises will now be popular anywhere from Sydney to Hervey Bay in Queensland.

If you have never seen these fabulous aquatic creatures in their natural environment, do yourself a huge favour and book a whale watching cruise. They don’t cost a fortune and most come with a guarantee of seeing whales.

Once you see a whale tail slap or breech, you are hooked. These are gentle creatures of the sea, yet huge and slightly unpredictable. (I could say like my mother-in-law, but she might read this post). Nah only kidding!

Whale watching is popular along the east coast and best places are Sydney where they pass just out from Sydney Harbour, Gold Coast has fabulous cruises as does Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast at Mooloolaba, and of course Hervey Bay is regarded as the Whale Watching capital of Australia, as whales use the sheltered waters to mate, give birth and rear the new born calves.

This year points to an even better one for whale watchers, with a reported increase in whale numbers. So book your cruises and enjoy seeing whales now.
