Hervey Bay is known all over the world as the whale watching capital of Australia, yet there is so much more for the visitor outside of the whale season.
For a start, did you know Hervey Bay has one of the safest beaches on the Queensland coast? Sheltered by Fraser Island, the main beach has calm, warm waters, and as it is a north facing beach, which is unusual in itself, it is ideal for all forms of aquatic sports, from swimming, fishing, wind surfing, canoeing to jet ski riding.
The Esplanade, the official main drag, runs from Urangan to Point Vernon and is a tourist attraction in itself. The local council has established a walking and bicycle path between both areas, which is a popular place for morning and afternoon exercise or just a pleasureable stroll along the foreshore. There are established parks with free BBQ’s, beaches, paths to the beach and playgrounds. There are free exercise equipment, art structures, clean toilets and restrooms and some fantastic beachside cafes where you can eat a meal or a grab a snack while looking out over the calm waters of the bay area.
If you are staying in one of the picturesque camping parks right on the beach, you can fish, swim or enjoy the fabulous views. For those who like a little more comfort, there are plenty of backpacker hostels and motels along the esplanade with prices to suit all budgets. From affordable units to luxury penthouse apartments, accommodation along this fabulous espalanade places you in a great position to enjoy all the sights and relaxed lifestyle that attracts people from all over the world to Hervey Bay.
Dining is fabulous, with a range of food that will satisfy the fussiest of eaters. Italian, Indian, Mexican, Chinese or fish and chips, breakfast, lunch or dinner, there’s a taste delight waiting for you.
Need more, there’s plenty of supermarkets, several shopping malls and services that will take care of all your needs.
Hervey Bay is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia and it’s easy to see why.
