Mackay to Whitehaven Beach Cruise

by John on September 6, 2009

Today, Sunday 6th September, 2009, was a day to remember. Today wasn’t just Fathers Day in Australia, today also marked the inaugural cruise by Reefstar Cruises of the MV 2001 from Mackay to Whitehaven Beach.

mackaywhales-400.jpgThere were probably over one hundred passengers on board when the MV2001 cruised out of Mackay Marina for Whitsunday Island and the incredible Whitehaven Beach.

Perhaps five minutes into the cruise something quite spectacular was experienced by all aboard when the first pod of whales were seen quite close to the boat. It started what could only be described as the perfect day. That’s one of the shots we were lucky enough to get of what looked like a mother humpback whale and calf.

We won’t go into all the details on this blog, as there will be a full review of the cruise posted on Funtours website this week. What we can tell you is that the weather was one of those days straight out of a storybook. The sea was flat and calm, the sun shone brightly yet wasn’t too hot and the skipper and crew of the MV 2001 were the perfect hosts on a day that all will never forget.

Mackay to Whitehaven Beach cruise will happen once a month, weather permitting, and we here strongly recommend anyone who has the chance to experience this fabulous cruise, to get their bods down to the Mackay Marina and hop on board for something quite special.

You may not get the perfect weather conditions or see as many whales as we did today, but you will get fabulous service from the staff of Reefstar Cruises aboard the MV 2001 and Whitehaven Beach will be as beautiful as it must have been for many thousands of years.

Just do yourself and family a favor and go on this cruise the next time it runs!
