One of the most photographed wrecks in Australia. the remains of the Maheno grace the beach on Fraser Island.
We are off on a little break next week, so to speak, and will be staying in Hervey Bay for almost 2 weeks for some well earned R&R. We call going away R&R but really we work harder while we are away than when at home. Getting up early to catch the first rays of light is a photographers duty, taking tours to all the local attractions and sampling the cuisine at popular restaurants a travel writers dream. It’s hard work really, but as the saying goes, “someone has to do it” because you deserve to be informed as to the best places to visit, what accommodation is good and where the food tastes like real food.
Holidaying at Hervey Bay in June isn’t the main tourist season. The Whales arrive in the bay during July, so we want to see what the place has to offer the tourist outside the peak time. I can tell you now that visiting during the off peak, accommodation is cheap and there are bargains galore to be found on websites like Hotel Club and What If. We always stay and play at the Alegra right on Torquay Beach, which allows us to be out and about at the right times. Yes, the keen photographer is up before dawn to catch the soft golden light which makes those travel photos so much better than the average tourist shot. The Alegra is also in the right place for long walks on the Esplanade to work of those calories after reviewing the delicacies of the local eating houses.
Why Hervey Bay in June
Now to the real point of this post. Our sojourn to Hervey Bay will be more of a test of new technology . We are planning to work early and then blog our experiences almost immediately with the use of Apple IPads. We are going to really put the IPad to the test to see what capabilities it has for travel writers and photographers, or the new breed of pro bloggers. You will be able to follow our exploits on this blog or by linking up with SLR Photography Guide Blog, plus we will be Twittering and adding to Facebook regularly each day.
All going to plan, you will virtually be right next to us during the day, enjoying the sun and sand of Hervey Bay. Make sure you follow the blog daily, we also have a few surprises in store that you won’t want to miss.

Hervey Bay is an absolutely beautiful area to visit. Hopefully the whales will arrive early and you’ll get to photograph them. I’ll be watching your blog daily for updates.
