There is a place in North Queensland where the living is relaxed and the kangaroos are friendly. So friendly in fact that you can share the beach with them each morning, and it isn’t out of the realms of possibility to have a swim with kangaroos.
Do Kangaroos Swim? Yes, they most certainly do swim. If the tide is in at Cape Hillsborough and you are up early enough, you may see several roos swim from Wedge Island to the main beach, thus certainly proving that Kangaroos Can Swim.
Cape Hillsborough is around 40 kilometers north of Mackay. A peaceful National Park, there is a nature resort nestled at the base of the hills, right on a stretch of one of the best beaches in Queensalnd. The resort has motel style accommodation, beach huts, plus caravan and camping facilities. It is here that each morning just after sunrise, kangaroos and wallabies make their way onto the beach, seemingly to say hello to all the visitors to the region.
There is much more to Cape Hillsborough than seeing the kangaroos on the beach. Swimming, fishing, bush walks or just lazing in the tropical sun are all sure fire ways of recharging those batteries and enjoying life. But those kangaroos on the beach are something special to see and the memories will last forever.
