Good News. Common sense prevails and Uluru will remain open for tourists who want to climb the world famous monolith. The Australian Government has announced that Uluru will remain open to climbers unless set preconditions occur. These new conditions include safety reasons, dwindling climber numbers or new tourist attractions and experiences developed on site.
This is particularly good news for the tourist operators and visitors alike, as making the climb up the steep slope is the primary reason for visiting Uluru for many tourists. It has been recorded that as many as 38% of visitors attempt the climb. This is a very high number, considering that the Rock is closed to climbers if the weather is inclement or temperatures will reach above 36 degrees Celsius, which is just about every day between November and April way out there in the desert.
So if you were planning to visit the Red Centre sometime in the next year or so, don’t be put off by the fact that the Uluru Climb may be closed. Common sense has prevail, at least in the short term, and climbing Ayers Rock is still open to the general public, unless adverse weathers conditions dictate otherwise.

Well said, mostly, but don’t you feel you’re oversimplifying?
