Taronga Zoo Seal Show
One
of the best loved and most popular attractions at the fabulous Taronga
Zoo, is the free seal show, held twice daily. Housed within the new
Great Southern Ocean Exhibit, the Seal Show theater has been designed
with seating for 950 visitors, so that everyone can get a seat.
The
new seal theater now features a glass front pool so the audience can
see the seals swimming underwater. This is a fabulous feature for the
smaller kids.
It is easy to see why old sailors were regarded as Sea Dogs, because
just like the seals, they were easy to train. During the free seal show
you will see Australian Sea Lions, New Zealand Fur Seals and the huge
Californian Sea Lions strut their stuff, to the amusement of the audience.
Jumping, spinning, catching balls and catching fish, the audience is
kept completely riveted to the ongoing action of these colorful aquatic
creatures. Each one seems to have their own personality and their own
unique capabilities.
The big Californian Sea Lion loves showing off
and gets the crowd laughing with his antics. Did you know that a seal
can actually smile? Come along and see if this is really true for yourself.
The new Great Southern Ocean Exhibit is located almost in the centre
of the zoo, near the Taronga Food Market and between the Wild Asia Exhibit
and new Elephant Breeding Enclosure.
The seal show times are 11.00am
and 2.00pm daily. Gates close at 11.00am and 2.00pm sharp, as the seals
can be distracted and under perform if people are moving within the
theater. So arrive early or you will miss out.
