Queenstown Kawarau River White Water Rafting

With morning and afternoon rafting trips available, all wet weather gear and other equipment provided, this is great value in anybody's language.

On the morning departure we were collected from our Queenstown hotel and taken out to the Kawarau River full of anticipation for the thrill of taking to the white water in a raft.

Our guide, instructor, put us through a serious safety program and tutored us on paddling techniques before hitting the river. At last we were off and at first paddling down a fairly calm river. Perhaps this is what they call the calm before the storm.

We negotiated 3 pretty hairy rapids with quiet water in between, having heaps of fun and getting wet.

Our guide told us the last rapid we would negotiate was the best and fairly famous as far as white water rapids go, then we were into the 400m long Chinese Dog Leg rapid and hanging on for dear life. What a feeling.

After the river, there were hot showers and sauna available with a snack before being transferred back to Queenstown.

The experience is something superb and really good for first time rafters. For roughly $140, it was great value.
