Butterfly House Melbourne Zoological Gardens

Macro butterfly image. On the path between the Sumatran Tigers and the Asiatic Elephants, take a few minutes, or a few hours if you like, to stroll through the fabulous Butterfly House, home to thousands of Australian butterflies.

These are all native to the tropical regions of Australia, so be prepared to feel the warmth and humidity that you would experience in a city like Cairns. The temperature inside the Butterfly House is maintained at a warm 28 degrees. Just like a balmy day in our North Queensland cities.

Beautiful and highly colorful, the fairy like butterflies swarm around each visitors head, with some landing on your arms or hair, making for some delightful photos and memorable experiences. Everyone loves butterflies, and to see the pure delight in children's eyes is just one of the reasons to take a walk through the Butterfly House.

The Melbourne Zoo Butterfly House is one of the main attractions, even though it may be overshadowed by the gorillas or lions, once you have spent some time inside the tropical Australian butterflies enclosure, you can't help but come away in awe of these fragile and beautiful creatures.

Close up image of butterfly of Melbourne Zoo. If you are a photographer take your macro lens, or set your point and click camera to the macro setting, as you will get some excellent detailed shots. There are so many butterflies that you can't help but come away with many excellent maco photos, as there will be many butterflies that will stay perfectly still while you rip off a few frames.

You don't have to know the names of the various butterflies, or for that matter know that they are all from the northern tropics. You just have to have eyes and mind open to enjoy and appreciate natures beauty. If you have a young, or young at heart, perhaps you will see the fairies in the garden.

Butterfly House is open during normal zoo hours. Next door to the Butterfly House is the World of Bugs, where you can see a wide selection of fascinating Australian insects, including stick insects and the Giant Burrowing Cockroach. Pick up a zoo map as you enter and make sure that the Butterfly House is high on your list of "must see" exhibits when you visit the Melbourne Zoo.
