Just a few minutes from the Mackay Airport and right on Nebo Road which is actually the Bruce Highway, the Alara Motel is a great location in which to stay a day or two and enjoy the tropical delights of the Mackay Region.

Bathroom at the Alara Motel on Nebo Road Mackay. The Alara Motel is perfectly situated on the Highway running into Mackay City. Just a few minutes from the airport and the main shopping centre at Canelands, guests can leave their car and walk to the Mackay Showgrounds, Mackay Racecourse and Botanical Gardens.

Rooms are typical motel style with all the amenities one expects to find in higher classed hotels. The Alara has a fine restaurant for delicious evening meals or is perfectly positioned for you to stroll to other hotels that serve counter meals.

Accommodation in Mackay is usually fully booked and we highly suggest that you arrange your travel itinery and book your needs well in advance. One thing is certain, if you stay at the Alara Motor Inn your time in Mackay will include a restful break in fine rooms.

I went to Mackay in May to look into employment in the coal mines. My time at the Alara was good, typical motel rooms, clean and comfortable. I liked the location, cost about $10 for a taxi from the airport or to the main shopping centre and night clubs. There were a couple of pubs close to the hotel where the food was great and prices reasonable. Mackay is a lovely place but housing is way out of the question.

We were warned to book way ahead of our travel date and lucky we did as we then got to stay at the Alara for 2 nights July 2007. Good rooms, clean and comfortable and about $40 bucks a night too dear, but in a town where people live full time in motels because there is little accommodation, they can charge what they want. We met a bloke who works in the mines and actually lives in Brisbane. The company puts him up at the motel, he flies in for 14 days then goes home for 4. He has been doing that for the last 10 years. That's why motels like the Alara are fairly highly priced. This is one of the cheaper motels in Mackay so couldn't complain. Nice motel.
