Hervey Bay Review. Gateway to Fraser Island
At the heart of the beautiful Fraser Coast, Hervey Bay caters for a lifestyle
that dreams are built upon. Clean, calm beaches, safe for all aquatic
sports, come alive during winter when the whales arrive. Visit Hervey Bay,
the stepping stone for Fraser Island tours and the whale watching capital
of Australia.
Hervey
Bay is regarded as the best place to see whales during winter, when
large numbers of humpback whales and bottlenose dolphins enter the bay
for breeding.
Whales have their calves in the warmer tropical waters
due to the new arrivals having no heat absorbing blubber, which keeps
the cold Antarctic waters from freezing the whales while hunting for
their favorite food, Krill.
From July to November, humpback whales migrate along the east coast
of Australia, with the sheltered waters of Hervey Bay being ideal for
mating and delivering the new born calves. Virtually free of predators,
the calves are able to thrive before returning to the Antarctic ocean
for summer food.
While the whale watching is probably what has put Hervey Bay on the
map, it is the lifestyle and laid back atmosphere that keep people returning,
time and again. Couple this idyllic lifestyle with fabulous accommodation,
great food and superb beaches and you are almost in paradise. We haven't
even mentioned that the world's largest sand island, Fraser Island,
is right on the doorstep to Hervey Bay.
Accommodation
is superb, with the city boasting beachfront caravan parks, all types
of budget accommodation and luxury plus apartments. There are large
resorts situated along the beach esplanade and luxurious units located
at the marina complex.
Dining in Hervey Bay is an unforgettable experience. There are many
superb restaurants situated at the marina complex and stretching right
along the esplanade to Point Vernon. Seafood, Mexican, Asian, Italian,
you name it, Hervey Bay has it.
Among our favorites that we would highly recommend are The Deck Restaurant
& Bar on the Whale Bay Marina and if you are into Italian food, (who
isn't?) don't go past Viva Italia Pizza & Pasta on the esplanade
at Urangan. Another we highly recommend is Gringos Mexican Cantina on
the Esplanade at Torquay. There are many others that are equally as
good, which makes Hervey Bay a diners delight. Our Hervey Bay restarant
review has more suggestions where the food is good and the service is
great.
And just a suggestion, take a stroll along the esplanade and have a
coffee or full breakfast right on the beach at Enzos. Fabulous coffee
and fabulous views. What a way to start the day!
Take a tour
of Fraser Island, hire a jet ski, go fishing, shop at one of the
large shopping centres, take a dip at the beach, visit the Hervey
Bay Aquarium or do a bit of serious photography near the rocks at
Point Vernon. Whatever you choose, there are many things to do in Hervey
Bay that will relax and refresh your inner being and make your stay
something special.
