Discover Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour (from Auckland)

Enjoy the 3 hour bus trip from Auckland to Waitomo Caves through the lush New Zealand countryside. On arrival at Waitomo Caves you have something extra special waiting for you in a guided tour through these magnificent caverns.

Formed over 30 million years ago, Waitomo Caves have become famous throughout the world for their beauty and unique limestone formations. Stalactites and stalagmites take many centuries to form from the slow dripping of water seeping into the caves from above. Some of the formations are absolutely stinking and if you have never been inside caves before, you will be in for a real treat at Waitomo Caves.

You will also take the Glowworm Grotto Cruise, which is like a trip through the night skies. Tiny glowworms make traps and exude a glowing light source to attract insects to eat. A most fascinating sight which makes the ceiling of the cave look like a starry night.

Starting from around AUD $165 per person (subject to change), the Auckland Waitomo bus tour departs daily from Discover New Zealand Travel Center, Auckland. Tour departs at 8:00am and returns around 5.30 pm. This is a fabulous tour but please be aware there is no photography allowed inside the caves.
